8-15-25   THOUGHTS

We have a lesson from small things this morning.  As they were amazed at God’s greatness, Jesus powerfully tells them that the victory will be in His death!  Understanding is beyond them now. Verse 46 says simply  “An argument started among them as to which of them might be the greatest.”   How human!  Jesus uses a child for His answer to them.  I want to note that in other cases, we are to become like children (Matt 19:14 etc).  Here, it is “the receiving of children” that is key.  Humility and “foot washing” are great lessons from our Lord.  Matt 10:42   "And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward."

Luke 9:43-48    And they were all amazed at the greatness of God.  But while everyone was marveling at all that He was doing, He said to His disciples,  44  "Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men."  45  But they did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they would not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement.  46  An argument started among them as to which of them might be the greatest. 47  But Jesus, knowing what they were thinking in their heart, took a child and stood him by His side,  48  and said to them, "Whoever receives this child in My name receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me; for the one who is least among all of you, this is the one who is great."

A Prayer:
Father, help us always to see the serving love of our Savior. May we be as our teacher and Lord.  May we learn the joy of humble giving...  our money, yes, but ourselves also.   Take from us the desire to be great, and replace it with the desire to show your image.  Help us establish always, right priority and focus.  May love always be our teacher and the sermon of our lives.  We love You, O God, for You loved us first and always.   In the name of Jesus,   Amen.
